Directing Workshop with Peter Webber

Spring Semester 2017/18

With a storied career, Peter Webber first worked as a film editor, before directing award-winning documentaries. He then moved into drama, directed Simon Russell Beale as Schubert and explored the counter-culture of tunnel-dwelling road protesters in Underground, before directing controversial Channel Four mini-series, Men OnlyGirl with a Pearl Earring, starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth, marked Webber’s feature film debut. The film, written by Olivia Hetreed, received numerous accolades including 3 Academy Award Nominations, 2 Golden Globe Nominations, 10 BAFTA Award Nominations and many others. Webber went on to direct Hannibal Rising based on Thomas Harris’ book of the same name, with Gong Li and Gaspard Ulliel, and Emperor with Tommy Lee Jones. Webber has just completed his first drama feature in the Spanish language, Pickpockets, filmed in Colombia.

Webber worked in the Middle East as Creative Director for the Qatar National Day, where he commissioned and executive produced several documentary films including Sarajevo Film Festival and Grierson award winner For the Love of Books, and The Sand and the Rain filmed in the remote Colombian Amazon with the Macuna Tribe. His recent documentaries include 10 BILLION on the future of the planet and climate change, and last year, Earth, One Amazing Day, working with the BBC and Robert Redford. He is currently in post-production on Inna de Yard.
